Zhilei Zhang, the oldest boxer among the top heavyweights, is continuing his career even as he approaches his 42nd birthday. Many at his age would have considered retiring from professional sports, but the Chinese man is determined and still at the top of his game. Zhang is currently fighting for the interim WBC heavyweight belt, and his next big test comes tomorrow in Riyadh.
His opponent will be undefeated Agit Kabayel, a boxer from Germany who has did amazing things in his career so far. Zhang had nothing but praise for his opponent, calling him the best boxer at the moment. However, some believe that this is just part of the tactics of the Chinese fighter, who is known for his ability to prepare psychologically for each fight.
His path to big fights
While Kabayel is impressive, this great fighter is sure that he will be a real test for him, as none of his previous opponents have had the strength and experience that the Chinese man possesses. Zhang, who has already gained a lot of experience, believes that he can still stand alongside the best heavyweight boxers. Despite his age, Zhang feels that he is still in great shape and has a chance to provide strong resistance to Kabayel.
One of his main goals in the future is a fight against Anthony Joshua. Although he does not think that the Briton is too interested in the fight, he is still open to the possibility of such a clash. "If 'AJ' wants to fight, I think he should get the approval of Eddie Hearn. But I don't think Hearn will want Joshua near me," Zhang said, emphasizing that a fight against Joshua would only happen if it were on his terms.
Zhang also expressed his opinion on Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, whom he considers an equally great fighter. "If I were to enter the ring with him, I don't know how it would end. I hope I would win, but I won't take it lightly. Yes, I want him, and I want Joshua, but I respect both fighters," Zhang concluded.
