Yuki Tsunoda has great goals before the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuki after his move to the Red Bull team. The 24-year-old driver has the chance to prove show his qualities in Japan, his homeland.
After being confirmed to replace Liam Lawson in the main team, Tsunoda has finally been given the chance to drive next to Max Verstappen for the rest of the season. This young driver has shared his feelings about the sudden change and the responsibilities that come with it. Namely, he has always been a reserve driver, and now he is moving to the best team in F1.
With 2025 being the last year of the Red Bull-Honda partnership, Yuki feels it has all come at the right time.
“I never imagined I would be driving for Red Bull at the Japanese Grand Prix,” admitted Tsunoda. “This is a special opportunity because Suzuki has a special meaning for me. The whole situation feels like destiny.”
Although he is heading into his debut with optimism, Japanese driver is clear that he will not raise his expectations.
“Of course, I am delighted to be joining Red Bull, but when I thought about it, it was not easy for me to realise that I would be driving at my home race,” said Tsunoda.
Tsunoda is aware that it will not be easy to get a podium finish in Japan. Having never driven an RB21, a potential debut for Red Bull could be difficult.
What can we expect?
Although there is a huge pressure, Tsunoda is not afraid of a challenge.
“When I got the call, I thought, ‘Wow, this is going to be incredible!’,” he said. This moment in his career represents a real test for him and an opportunity to show everything he knows. He has always wanted to be part of a big team, and now he has the chance to prove himself at one of the biggest races in the world.
Tsunoda didn't have time to feel too excited, as he had to immediately start preparing in the simulator.
