For both clubs, winning the Europa League trophy would be the absolute salvation of the season. The round before the end of the Premiership, Tottenham is 17th in the table with 38 points, and United is a place above with a point more.

It's been a long time since teams have had no chance of qualifying for European competitions, so tonight's final is for that very reason.

The winner of the Europa League will win a direct placement in the Champions League, and the winner will also receive an amount of 62 million.

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham coach:

"It's hard to contextualize the challenges of the last few years. From my perspective, I came to the club with some pretty clear goals. I'm trying as hard as I can to stick to that process to get the club into a position where they can fight for trophies, while also rejuvenating the squad and changing the style of play.

It was a fair task with many challenges along the way. With such an important game, there is an opportunity to at least fulfill the main task given to me, which is to bring trophies to the club."

Amorim reacts

Ruben Amorim, United coach:

"This season has been really difficult for everyone - results, changes in personnel; you can feel it in our club. We solve it, we change the way we play. When we prepare for a game in the Europa League, the environment is a little different; then you can feel the excitement.

Nothing will change our season, but everyone knows that winning the European title can help us get a feeling that can help us build the future. We have bigger things to deal with to get this club back on top; this title can help and give us the strength to do what we have to do."

The match will be played at the San Mames stadium in Bilbao, starting at 21:00. The main referee for the match will be Felix Zwayer.
