The new pope is attracting a lot of attention, and the public is interested in learning more about his life. What the public doesn't know is that the new pope is a big sports fan.

Although information quickly surfaced in the American media about which team the newly elected pope was supporting in the end it was pointed out that this was not true.

The second day of the conclave brought the successful election of a new pope in the Vatican.

The cardinals were in agreement very quickly and decided to choose an American - Robert Francis Prevost - as the new pope - he is also the first American to sit on the Holy See.

When it was known that the pope was coming from Chicago, speculations immediately began as to which sport the pope likes and who he supports.

The answer may be surprising to Europeans, but in the United States it is completely normal that the pope is a baseball enthusiast.

There are two strong clubs in Chicago, the White Sox and the Chicago Cubs, and his brother John Prevost explained who the new pope is rooting for.

Prevost was actually reacting to ABC writing that Pope Leo 14 is a Cubs fan, the brother "vehemently denied" it.

"Never. He was never a Cubs fan, I really don't know where they got that information. He's been a big Sox fan since he was a kid," John said.

The Chicago Sun Times quickly came out with confirmation, showing that the new pope who chose the name Lav 14 attended a game.

MLB final : White Sox and the Houston Astros

It was the MLB final between the White Sox and the Houston Astros, and that happened back in 2005.

That year, the pope was able to celebrate the championship title because the Chicago White Sox team went on to win the "World Series."

It's truly amazing how sport unites people around the world and what attention it attracts.
