The finale of the second season of The Last of Us series in the US was followed by 55% fewer viewers than in the case of the last episode of the first season.

The premiere of the second season of The Last of Us series had a small increase in viewers, but that's why the finale dropped significantly in terms of viewership.

As the portal The Wrap reports, the last episode of the second season in the USA was watched by 3.7 million viewers, which is 55% less than the finale of the first season. However, HBO is satisfied with the viewership of the second season, which globally recorded around 37 million viewers per episode.

For the sake of comparison, according to statistics from the beginning of 2023, the previous The Last of Us games (and their remasters) have sold 37 million copies.

Judging by viewer ratings on IMDB, reactions to the second season finale overwhelmingly include disappointment. It is the second lowest rated episode so far. The series is criticized for speeding up the story, poorly written dialogues, and the plot structure, which is even worse than in the game.

A third season

A third season of the series has already been approved.

As the second season of The Last of Us draws to a close, director Craig Mazin has announced that the story will not be completed with the third season.

The second season will be completed next weekend, and those who have played the game can already guess where everything will end. Since this season was mostly focused on Ellie, it is expected that Abby will be a central character in the third season. However, don't expect the end of the story until at least the fourth season, if director Craig Mazin is to be believed.

Mazin said the following in an interview with Collider:

“I think season three could be longer than season two, primarily because it gives us the opportunity to do something different narratively. I think we will have more space, but there is certainly no way we will complete the story in season three. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to come back and finish everything with season four. That is the most likely outcome.”
