Sebastian Vettel, a famous name in the F1 scene, inspired Lewis Hamilton in his fight for the throne this year. In an interview with the BBC, the Austrian pointed out that the Briton is a driver from whom he has huge expectations, and the experience factor could be decisive in this story.
When asked if the pressures and expectations feel different at Ferrari compared to other teams, Vettel said the following:
"Maybe a little, but I think Lewis is a competitor and he has very high expectations of himself so I think he's probably very ambitious to be in that place now and he's not so focused on the hype around him, but more on making everything work."
The experienced driver revealed why his adventure in the Italian team was less successful. Despite this, Sebastian wants Hamilton to succeed, hoping that he can win the title this year.
"It didn't really work for me because Lewis was there so we'll see how he does now. But yeah, [fingers crossed]. Obviously I've raced with him for a long time, we get on really well and he's by far the most open driver on the grid at the moment, his skills on the track don't need repeating."
Vettel shares his views
Sebastian feels Ferrari has the potential to make history with Charles and Lewis.
“I think the numbers, the statistics speak for themselves, but it’s great to see that he’s still on the grid and that he’s still having that influence and using it in a positive way. So naturally I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he wins the title, but Charles is there too, I’ve raced with him,” he said.
“It’s a strong driver line-up and at the end of the day it takes a lot of things to come together to be there in the last few races in the title fight. We’ll see. It’s going to be close, but I’m definitely not ruling anyone out.”
