Scott Van Pelt, a seasoned SportsCenter host, has slammed the officials’ performance during the opening game of the NFL season between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. The game, which the Chiefs won 27-20, left Van Pelt furiously complaining that several penalties were slanted against the Ravens.

Five illegal formation penalties were called against them, and not a single penalty was called against the Chiefs. Van Pelt expressed his opinion after the game by saying, “It’s the time everybody was waiting for the NFL to come back.

And amazing two teams are playing on the field. I think it’s fair to point out that somewhere in this game, particularly, there was a bit too much of a ref show”.

Woody Suggests Bias

Damien Woody, the former NFL player, also discussed with Van Pelt and indicated that the negative attitude might stem from the fact that the Chiefs were playing at home.

“Listen, it might be a little bit of home cooking there,” Woody said of the often ballyhooed Arrowhead Stadium. Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley shared his opinion and expressed anger towards the referees.

Several staff called Stanley illegal and felt instead ‘picked on.’ “Didn’t match what was presented to us,” Stanley recalled. “It’s like they were trying to show who the boss is, and I happened to be the one chosen to demonstrate it.

From my perspective, they were not trying to do it equally”. Although I probably agree with the majority of what went into this call, I know that most of them missed borderline illegal position”. Even with such overlays, the teams did not receive so much penalty yardage that was complete to the Chief's benefit.

The Ravens committed a total of four fouls for 56, and the Chiefs ended it on 45 penalties for the loss of 6 yards. Yet a major concern remained in the face of constant infringements of the rules against the Ravens, more so when crunch time play came around, where the margins of disparity couldn’t keep the referees quiet anymore.
