NASCAR has been introducing novelties in recent years, and the exception for 'elite' drivers in the Cup Series is particularly interesting and interesting for fans. This means that the 41st starting place will be opened for a professional driver who failed to qualify for the race. This will mean that, for example, drivers from F1 can be part of NASCAR races, which would certainly be a huge thing.
Helio Castroneves, a well-known name in IndyCar, will be the first to take advantage of this NASCAR decision, performing at the Daytona 500 race.
Kevin Harvick, a well-known face of NASCAR, said that he would like to see Max Verstappen, the multiple F1 champion, perform at the Daytona 500.
“I would love to see like, the Max Verstappen-type situation at the Daytona 500 of sorts, with a Red Bull activation behind it,” Harvick said, as quoted by On3.
“When you look at the whole thing, whatever the sponsor is, it is as important as anything else, because you want them to be behind the activation and promotion of what happens, as well.”
Kevin Harvick compares NASCAR drivers to F1 drivers
This will solve many doubts and questions that have dominated the motorsport scene for years. Fans are not sure if Verstappen would excel in another discipline, while also F1 fans are skeptical that one of the NASCAR drivers would make a big result in F1.
Harvick is aware that this is a great promotion for everyone. However, he believes that NASCAR drivers would find it easier to manage in F1, than the other way around.
“I truly believe that our drivers make a better transition into IndyCar and F1,” Harvick said last year.
“I think if we sent Kyle Larson and sent him to a Red Bull car right now, I think he’d go wheel-to-wheel with Max Verstappen. It wouldn’t take him long to figure it out."
