Nikola Jokić cannot boast of a great results when he plays against the Washington Wizards, despite his amazing performances. In the last matches, the Serbian center had impressive statistics, with an average of 39.7 points, 15.7 rebounds and 10.3 assists, but despite this, the Denver Nuggets failed to win.
In the last duel, in the 19th meeting between them, Jokić scored as many as 40 points, but the Nuggets, shockingly, lost to the worst team in the league with 123:126, which caused surprise among fans and experts.
Denver's problems and Jokić's struggle with the team
Although Jokić played a brilliant game, scoring 20 points in the first quarter alone, and eventually scored 40, his team could not defend against the rival's attack. Regardless of his impressive play, Denver had serious defensive problems, due to which they were again defeated by the worst team in the league, which happened for the second time this season.
While Jokić set a career record with 56 points in the previous game, that was not enough to avoid defeat.
After the game, Jokić expressed his opinion at the press conference, stressing that they should achieve better results and that they cannot relax. He pointed out that there were similar moments earlier in the season when they lost games they had to win, but in the end they still fought for the title.
However, now his attitude is clearer:
"We have to improve our game, otherwise we face big problems".
Jokić's view on the absence of a comfort zone
Jokić also referred to Denver's current position in the league, stressing that they are not in the comfort zone and that they are not playing well, even though they are still high in the table. He is versatile and critical of his team, stating:
"We are lucky to still be among the best teams, but we are not playing as well as we should".
Although in past seasons Denver showed great dominance, now it feels like they are stagnating.
This great player mentioned that losses to weaker teams, such as the Washington Wizards, are not acceptable in serious competition.
"We beat big and strong teams, but we lose against weak ones," said Jokić.
For this reason, he feels that it is very important that Denver avoids such a drop in form in the following games, because otherwise they will not be able to compete for the title in the playoffs.
