Microsoft announces next-gen Xbox as Windows gaming PC

Microsoft recently announced the news about the new generation of Xbox consoles, but not as we are used to until now. In fact, these consoles will no longer be ordinary gaming devices, but will represent a special form of gaming computer with a Windows operating system.

For those who haven't followed the rumors and earlier information, Microsoft is actively working on customizing Windows 11 to better accommodate gaming. This move will lay the foundation for the operating system of the future Xbox. Unlike the current models, where games are only available in Microsoft's store, the new Xbox will enable the purchase of games on different platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Battle.net and many others.

The company's main goal is to make Windows "the number one gaming platform". Also, they want users not to think about switching to other systems like SteamOS.

Hardware

Although this company is moving to a Windows PC base, Microsoft still plans to develop specialized hardware adapted to gaming. To this end, they have entered into a partnership with AMD, which will allow work on various devices, including new consoles for living rooms. These consoles will not have the limitations of traditional devices, as they are basically PCs with a simplified system adapted for controllers.

The biggest problem ahead is how to solve the issue of backward compatibility with older Xbox games. Games from Xbox, Xbox 360 and One are not fully compatible with Windows and for now can only be played on the original consoles. Microsoft is considering several solutions, but has not yet decided which one to implement.

In addition, there is also the question of what will happen to Sony's games. Most of the titles from the PlayStation library are coming to Windows PC, which means that exclusives could slowly disappear. However, it will take at least two to three years before that, and by then we will already see the next generation of PlayStation consoles, so things can change.
