Lewis Hamilton recently tested Ferrari’s car for the first time this season, and was extremely optimistic about the future afterwards. The British driver, who shocked many by joining Ferrari, now believes it was the right decision, and it looks like this may be one of the best moves of his career.
As part of a “film day” at the Fiorano track, Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc had the opportunity to drive the SF-25, the team’s current car. This test allows drivers to test the car for 200 kilometers, and teams are allowed two such tests during the season. After testing the car, the seven-time world champion was asked by reporters if he thought joining Ferrari was the right move, to which he replied:
“100%. I have no doubts or question marks over my head. I am in the right place at the right time and it is a great honour to be here, to join this team and to work with everyone to build and continue the great historical tradition of this team.”
Ferrari as a new beginning
Hamilton highlighted the special passion he felt for Ferrari fans, saying it was truly moving to begin this collaboration. Ferrari is a team with an incredible tradition and history, and now they hope that the 38-year-old driver will be a key factor in their return to the top. The team, which is among the most successful in Formula 1 history, believes that their success must be repeated, and Hamilton sees this opportunity as the start of something new and great:
“Starting this journey with [the fans] and the team is something that has left me speechless. Starting with passion, everything under one roof, something I have never experienced before, this team has absolutely everything it takes to win.”
While full of optimism, Hamilton is also aware that the team has to work hard to reach its goals. He stressed that continuing to improve in certain areas is a key factor, and he deeply believes that Ferrari will be able to achieve these goals.
“But we also know that we have to keep working. We need to improve in everything – not everything, but in certain areas and I have no doubt that we can do it.”
