Nate Diaz was a guest on the HJR podcast and touched on a very interesting topic. This legendary MMA fighter believes that the younger generation of fighters should learn to pay respect to the "pioneers" of this game, those who paved the way for them and built this sport.
Diaz, of course, considers himself one of the "pioneers", especially when it comes to the UFC. No one can deny that he justifiably sees himself among the older generation of fighters. Namely, Nate made his UFC debut back in 2007, and until September 2022, Diaz performed under the auspices of the world's leading MMA organization.
He came to the UFC with a "score" of 5-2-0, then he recorded three victories on the "Ultimate Fighter" (not counted in the professional "score"), and then he won "TUF" with a victory over Manny Gamburyan. It was Diaz's sixth win in his eighth professional fight, and he went on to make 26 more UFC appearances (16-11 UFC). Nate, on the other hand, believes that the younger generation of fighters doesn't respect his legacy enough.
Statement
- You guys are the O.G.s to me ('Original gangster', 'pioneers', legends...) and now that I think about it, you guys were three or four years ahead of me. - Diaz said while talking to Quinton Jackson on the aforementioned podcast, and then continued.
- Now these fools who are ten years younger in the UFC. Even 12 years younger, they're saying 'Nate Diaz is a ******'. What are you talking about, idiots? They're all jerks. Like Justin Gaethje. He came to the UFC sometime in 2016 (2017, ed.) and he was saying something like: 'Diaz is this and that'. Not that I'm looking for respect or anything, but why would I even consider what he says relevant? I should beat him up when I meet him. Then there's the wrestlers. That guy Bo Nickal was talking about me to someone, putting me down and stuff. Why are you putting my name in your mouth, you little ******? Stupid kids. - Nate said.
The fact is that Nate Diaz is not in the category of the best fighters in history, but his legacy, as well as the legacy of his brother Nick, has a special place among MMA fans. Both of them will be remembered as legends of the sport and deserve respect from everyone in the MMA community.
