The veteran Nigerian fighter, a man who once was a dominant figure in the welterweight division, is once again in the public eye. Kamaru Usman, now 38, has had a great career, but his last three fights have brought only negative emotions. He has not tasted victory since November 2021, and many are wondering if it is time for him to say goodbye to the sport.

However, the former champion is not losing hope. He claims that he still has "fire" in him, that everything is not over. He has defended his title five times in the past, and now he hopes to show his teeth one more time, for the last time.

Interesting path

"My path is pretty simple, I'll lay out the 'map' for you. I'll finish Buckley this weekend and then I'll wait for the winner of the Islam (Mahachev) vs. JDM (Jack Della Maddalena) fight. It's going to be an incredible fight. It's great to know that Islam has come to the welterweight division. Who wouldn't pay a ticket for him and me to fight? The former number one fighter on the 'P4P' rankings (Usman) against the current number one on that ranking. I love Islam, he's a great fighter and I think our fight would be something we'd both remember for the rest of our lives," said the experienced welterweight, showing that he still believes in miracles.

And if his plan works, he already knows what he'd do next.

- After I win the belt, I'd probably leave it right away. Me against Dricus Du Plessis, if he's the champion, or against Hamzat Chimaev. If Dricus is still the champion, we could headline the first UFC event in Africa. That would be another blockbuster, a fight that you tell your grandchildren about. Who wouldn't watch that? After that, I'd have two belts in my treasury. Then I should ask myself what's next. I think those are some of my long-term goals. - concluded Usman.

Given his recent form, skeptics have reason to doubt the realization of these interesting ideas. But if history has taught us anything, it's that this fighter should never be written off. Everything will be clearer this weekend.
