It seems that YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is not stopping challenging the big names in the boxing world. This year, somewhat unexpectedly, he took on former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua. Although at first it all seemed like a marketing ploy, the situation began to develop more seriously.
Their outsmarting began back in April, but, as Paul now reveals, the “trash talk” continued behind the scenes; through private messages.
“Everything was polite, we were fair. Today he sent me a message ‘LOL’ on one of my training videos, so I sent him a ‘LOL’ back with a picture of him being knocked out by Dubois,” Jake said with a laugh.
The American adds that there is no hatred between them.
"We talk a little bit behind the scenes. But I have a lot of respect for Anthony. I think this kind of banter is fun, he's a great character, and a fight between us would be great. And I really believe I can win."
First of all, the 27-year-old has a serious test against former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28. If he wins that match, there is already talk of a potential exhibition duel with Gervont Davis at the end of the year.
And as for meeting the famous Brit - Paul says that it could be realistic in 2026. Joshua is currently on hiatus after the loss to Dubois and elbow surgery, and is expected to return at the end of 2025.
Eddie Hearn reacts
His promoter Eddie Hearn, however, is not sure that Jake is serious. "Jake might be crazy enough to actually do that. Because all Jake sees is money… But he doesn't think about the medical consequences. Maybe they'll never find his head again after that fight."
He added: "It's like saying you're going to win gold in surfing at the 2028 Olympics. Why not now?"
