Australian fighter Alexander Volkanovski, even though he has entered the 36th year of his life, has no plans to stop. This experienced and fearless fighter shined again when he defeated Diego Lopes at UFC 314 in April, securing the featherweight belt. The title was vacant after Ilia Topuria decided to move to the lightweight category, and Volkanovski did not hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity.

His career is already rich, but this champion believes that it is not yet time to say goodbye. Speaking to UFC Australia/New Zealand, he revealed his next plans and potential opponents. A name that is often mentioned is Movsar Evloev, a fighter who has been waiting for his big chance for a long time.

"What's next for me? Nothing is completely clear. There are a lot of moving parts. Before the fight I thought it would be Movsar, but it seems he has some fight. He mentioned that he is getting ready for the fight," said Volkanovski.

What will happen?

Although Evloev has been linked with former Bellator fighter Aaron Pico, there is no confirmation yet. On the other hand, many expect a rematch between Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. When it was initially announced that UFC 320 would be held in Guadalajara, it looked like the Mexican was the main candidate to fight the Australian. However, the change of location to San Antonio and the fact that the event is no longer pay-per-view cast a shadow over that option.

UFC 320 has now been moved to October 4 in Las Vegas, potentially opening the door for Volkanovski to defend his title then. However, there is another important reason why the September appointment is out of the question - he is expecting a renewal.

“I hear Yair’s name being mentioned a lot, but September, you know, is probably not the best date. We’re expecting a baby that month, so it would be better to coordinate that. We’ll see what happens. There are a lot of moving parts. We plan to talk to the boss, Dan (White) and Hunter (Campbell) soon, so we’ll see what happens,” Volkanovski said frankly.

As a reminder, the two have already met last summer at UFC 290. Back then, Yair was the interim champion, but the Australian proved that he’s a class above right now – a third-round TKO was enough to dispel all doubts.
