It seems like the world of boxing has never been more interesting than it is now.
New Zealander Joseph Parker was scheduled to fight IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in February, but the Briton pulled out of the event two days before the event due to illness.
The WBO recently announced that Parker, as the interim champion of their organization, is the first on the list of challengers for a potential match against the winner of the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
And the two will fight for the absolute heavyweight title at Wembley on July 19. The Ukrainian brings the WBA (Super), WBC and WBO titles to the ring, while the Briton will be on the line for the IBF title.
Boxing promoter Frank Warren reveals that Parker will wait for the outcome of the fight between Usyk and Dubois, and will not return to the ring until September.
– I spoke with Joseph and his team. He will fight again in September – said Frank Warren and added:
– First we will see how the rematch between Usik and Dubois ends. The WBO said that the winner of that fight will have an obligation to fight their challenger. Parker is the interim champion so he is in a good position. He can wait and fight for four belts. Or if the winner vacates the belt, then he will become the world champion.
What will happen?
Parker is patiently waiting for an opportunity and a fight for the title after an impressive winning streak since 2022 when he lost to Joe Joyce.
In his last three appearances, he defeated former WBC champion and great knockout artist Deontay Wilder, then Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole, who stepped in as a replacement for Dubois.
Parker is really motivated to show the world his qualities, and the question is who does he want in this fight. It will be interesting to watch the match that will be a prelude to a great spectacle, even though this match is a spectacle in itself.
There is no doubt that all three boxers have a lot to offer boxing fans.
