This weekend he is expected to fight in a big lightweight fight against one of the best fighters today, Charles Oliveira. A victory against the Brazilian and winning a belt in another division could elevate him to an even greater level of fame.
Just a year ago, many were just starting to notice him, and now he is at the very top. On social networks, especially Instagram, the great fighter is a real magnet for fans. He currently has just over 9.5 million followers, and everything indicates that he will soon break the magical threshold of ten million.
The accusations are not slowing him down; the numbers are relentless
“Topuria is very close to the figure of ten million followers on Instagram. He is currently at just over 9.5 million, and by the end of the week he will probably exceed the ‘magical’ 10 million followers” – one of the analyses emphasizes. Earlier this week, he passed Jon Jones in terms of followers, and he could soon become only the fifth UFC fighter to surpass the famous figure.
Currently, the only ones who have more than him are: the legendary Conor McGregor with an incredible 46.4 million, then Habib Nurmagomedov with 39.6, Ronda Rousey (17.1) and Islam Makhachev who has 10.4 million. If he continues like this, he could soon overtake them too.
However, not everything is so smooth. Some fans have made claims that Ilia is buying followers.
“On Monday he gained 844 thousand new followers, the day after 367 thousand, and yesterday he collected as many as 459 thousand followers. Fans have started accusing him of buying followers to make himself look like a bigger star than he actually is,” reads one comment.
Regardless, he is a global star and a man who commands attention with his qualities.
