"I know what Chelsea's standards are, and I came at a time when many players were thinking of leaving or had some problems," said the former Blues midfielder.

The departure of Roman Abramovich changed a lot in Chelsea.

Since the arrival of Todd Boehly and the American investors, Chelsea has turned into a complete mess and is now far from the level it was at for years. If anyone knows the West London club before, during and after the Abramovich era, it's Frank Lampard.

One of the two greatest living legends alongside John Terry, Lampard left the deepest mark as a player, while as a coach he started to do something serious when he gave a great chance to young hopes, but the Americans quickly swallowed and spat him out.

After all, Lampard was Chelsea's important link once again, as an interim manager for seven weeks in 2023, following the departure of Graham Potter. According to his own admission, he found the club in total chaos...

After the departure of Thomas Tuchel, everything went downhill, the experiment with Graham Potter lasted six months, and Lampard responded to the cry for help before Mauricio Pochetino, also now ex, took over the club in the summer of 2023.

"I've seen things that I know can't be right in elite football and that's the truth," Lampard told Sky Sport and continued:

"I didn't like the job in that short stay because it was very difficult for me to adapt to one idea, when I knew I wouldn't stay long. And, again, Chelsea has always been a huge part of my life."

The Englishman knows this club quite well.

"I know what Chelsea's standards are, and I came at a time when many players were thinking of leaving or had some problems. Motivation was also a problem. As an acting manager, you cannot have a significant impact. When you look at the results, I am experienced enough to know what is good and what is not, as well as what should be the basics when we are in training."

Experience

Lampard gained immense experience as the player, knowing what it's crucial to achieve a success with the club.

"I didn't learn anything from the tactical side, but it only strengthened my faith after all the experiences, when you have a group of guys who really want to fight and who are focused on the same goal. I know how powerful it can be, and when not, which is very challenging".

Today, Chelsea is very far from the top of the Premier League, not to mention European football. And, it doesn't seem that anything will change for the better soon.
