Never say never in boxing - especially when Jake Paul and a huge amount of money are put in the same sentence. After the popular YouTuber and increasingly active boxer beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision, he didn't wait long to issue match calls to some of the biggest names. Among them was Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion.
Although at first everything looked like another viral move with no real foundation, the inclusion of Turki Alalshikh - currently one of the most important people in the world of boxing - changed the tone of the whole story. The match between Jake and Joshua no longer feels like a joke.
After this victory, Jake jumped to the 14th position on the cruiserweight list, and immediately started calling the current champion Zurdo Ramirez. However, the idea of a duel with the former heavy king looks much more serious.o
Eddie Hearn rules nothing out
Eddie hearn, the famous promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing, who has been managing Joshua's career for years, was previously very skeptical of Paul. But now, he has surprised the public by stating that the fight is not impossible - especially if the Saudis put enough money on the table.
"Yes, there have been talks. I was with Turki yesterday, he met with Jake Paul and, you know what, I think he would like to arrange it. It's so crazy that it could happen," Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans.
"It's not something we planned, but if it was offered to us, I would be shocked if AJ didn't take it. Why not?"
Although the main goal for 2025 is a fight against Tyson Fury, Hearn admits that Jake Paul can be dealt with "along the way". Financially, everything would make sense - the fight would certainly generate interest even outside of sports circles.
Joshua is keeping quiet for now. Perhaps this challenge is too beneath him. Or maybe he's just waiting for an easy win before the duel of his career.
