In the world of MMA, the question of who deserves to be at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings is always an interesting topic. Many agree that the two fighters who are most closely tied for the top spot are Jon Jones and Islam Makhachev. While fans believe that Jon Jones should remain at the top for as long as he is active, recent opinions include one of the greatest fighters of all time, Demetrious Johnson, who disagrees.

Islam Makhachev

Islam Makhachev, a fighter from Dagestan, currently holds the UFC lightweight title. What is impressive about his career is his incredible winning streak: 15 straight wins without a loss. This brilliant 30-year-old has done some magical things in the UFC, although he has one loss that is not something to hold against him at all. He has fought against the biggest names in the UFC scene, winning many times.

Unlike Jones, Islam has been much more active in recent years and has fought against great competition.

Demetrious Johnson, who is himself one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA, believes that Makhachev deserves to be at the very top of the rankings. He points out that Makhachev has all the skills; from strong punches to superb grappling, judo and jiu-jitsu techniques. Johnson stresses that Islam is currently the best fighter in the world, and Jon Jones cannot compete with him in this category.

Plans

As for the future, Islam has already mentioned the possibility of moving up to the welterweight division several times. Although Belal Muhammad currently holds that title, Islam has made it clear that he would like to win belts in two different categories. Johnson, who trained with Makhachev, feels he could easily continue to dominate at welterweight.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old is awaiting news of his next opponent. The UFC has mentioned several names, including Topuria, Oliveira, Gaethje, and Tsarukyan.

These are all big names that can create huge problems for him.
