Alex Pereira recently arrived in Australia to support his friend Sean Strickland at UFC 312, but his decision to travel during a crucial part of his training camp for his fight against Magomed Ankalaev has drawn harsh criticism. Many felt it was a bad decision, especially since Pereira had only traveled a month before the fight and to a completely different time zone.

After arriving in Australia, Pereira came under even more fire for his actions. He was also the subject of criticism from renowned UFC analyst and former fighter Daniel Cormier, who couldn’t help but express his views on Pereira’s behavior.

Cormier made some very interesting remarks in his commentary: “The guy was in Australia recently, shook Drake’s hand and went up on stage. First of all, Drake loses millions of dollars betting, and you don’t want a guy like that betting on you. And second of all, what is Pereira still doing in Australia? He’s fighting in two weeks! Anakalev is already here in Vegas, I met him recently at PI. He’s very focused on Pereira.”

Cormier also emphasized his view of Pereira’s preparation: “I came back from Australia right after the event, and here I am today at 3 am. I don’t care if he has two more weeks to prepare, but he’ll definitely need two to three days to adjust to the time difference. He’d better go home, because he’s facing his toughest fight yet.”

The danger of poor preparation?

The question now is, did Pereira take Ankalaev too lightly, or will all of this really cause him problems in the fight he’s about to face? Traveling to Australia and enjoying the nightlife, just a month before the fight, may not have been the wisest decision. Given Cormier’s comments, it’s clear that Pereira will face challenges when he returns to Vegas. We'll find out in a little over two weeks whether these moments of relaxation will cost him.
