After three years spent at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz decided to leave this team due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. Considering that all the top teams were full, he accepted the challenge and moved to Williams. The decision was clear: the great Spaniard knew he had to take a new step in his career and dedicate himself to this team, and he seems to be very happy with how things are progressing.

Transfer to a new team

"I like the color blue, it goes easily with everything," Sainz said, alluding to the team's colors. "I've been through 50% of the teams in the Championship over the last ten years. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I certainly have a great knowledge of how each team works."

Moving from Ferrari to Williams is surely the biggest change in his career so far. Although Sainz is not new to recognizable teams, this is a huge step. So far he has driven for Toro Rosso (now Racing Bulls), Red Bull, Renault, McLaren and Ferrari, and now he has reached the sixth team in his career. These changes certainly affect his path in Formula 1, as the Spaniard himself admitted.

Sainz has now switched to a Mercedes engine, which is a big news, because for the first time in his career he is able to drive a car with this power unit.

New technique and challenges ahead

"I tried the first laps in Abu Dhabi, but the biggest change is definitely the power unit," Sainz stressed. "Each change brings its own challenges, although the little things are different, the engine is the most important element – sound, feel, buttons... everything is different."

Sainz is aware that the upcoming season will bring him great challenges. He doesn't set unrealistic expectations, but he's ready to fight. "A podium at the beginning of the season would be a surprise," he admits. "This is a transition year, and everything is being prepared for 2026."

Although the differences between the teams are small, Sainz is realistic: "It will be difficult to fight for the top 10, but I am ready."

There is no doubt that adaptation will be needed, but the Spaniard is dedicated and motivated to give his best. The new Formula 1 season starts on March 16 in Australia.
