The TGL league is, without a doubt, doing great things, even though it's only been a few days since this league debuted on the golf scene. The PGA Tour knew that it was necessary to create a competition that would show LIV leaders how serious the leaders of the biggest Tour are at this moment.
Judging by the reactions of the fans after the first day, it seems that TGL has a great foundation to make a success in the years ahead. It is especially impressive that the creators of this league, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, want to help the PGA in this way, and show that this Tour deserves to have such a story.
After the first day of TGL, LIV golfers decided to react to this project, apparently not interested in it.
Cameron Smith, one of the main stars of the controversial Tour, pointed out in a media interview that he did not watch TGL, and that despite the fact that LIV Golfers were very close to that event, they did not want to watch this league.
“It’s funny, we are probably only five minutes away but we’ve had media stuff, commitments all day yesterday and were all pretty zonked,” Cameron Smith said.
“We all went to dinner then went to sleep.”
Looking at the viewership data, it is important to note that the debut of TGL attracted a lot of attention and broke previous records: TGL had more viewers than all LIV events, as well as the opening PGA Tour events.
The creators of this idea can be proud of everything so far, but their hopes are that they will continue at the same pace and increase the audience's interest in this project.
It is clear that the world of golf is going in a direction we did not expect, but innovations in sports have become a trend in recent years, so it was to be expected that the same would happen in golf. An exciting future awaits us.
