Not long after, at the end of December last year, he suffered a second consecutive defeat against Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury surprised everyone by announcing that he was ending his boxing career. However, given that this is not the first time he has hung up his gloves, many in the boxing community believe that this decision is just a marketing ploy and that the "Gypsy King" will be back in the ring soon.
If this really happens, the fight that would make the most sense for the 36-year-old Briton, especially from the commercial side, would be the one against his compatriot Anthony Joshua, who also wants their match to finally be realized.
"It's the best fight for me. Commercially it's a great fight and it's also a fight against a great man, so I think it makes absolute sense. It's been years in the making and at the end of it there's only going to be one winner and one loser. There's going to be bloodshed - but not mine," Joshua told iFL TV, while covering "The Last Crescendo" which he watched from the front row with former rival Usyk.
What can we expect?
That night, Fury's return was also backed by Turki Al-Sheikh and Eddie Hearn, which is no surprise, as a clash between two former champions, even without titles on the table, remains one of the most attractive fights in boxing, especially in economic terms.
This fight, previously dubbed the "Battle of Britain", may not have the same sporting weight as before, but its commercial value would be enormous due to the huge interest of the audience who would be willing to pay for the spectacle. We will find out soon whether the match will still happen, or whether Fury has truly said goodbye to boxing this time
Fans have mixed emotions about this, not knowing if they can expect a spectacle like a few years ago.
