Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton recently signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, marking his 15th season. In his career, which has lasted for many years, Dalton has always been a key figure in the team, although he lost the role of starter back in 2019 when he left Cincinnati. Although it would be difficult to expect him to improve as a player with age, he continued to be an important factor, but not only as a player, but also as a mentor.
Dalton played for numerous teams throughout his career, including Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, and in the last two seasons he played for the Panthers. Although he played only six games as a starter for Carolina and scored only one victory, he received another two-year contract.
Dalton's key role in Bryce Young's development
The 37-year-old quarterback, a three-time Pro Bowler, is not expected to be a starter at this stage of his career. However, his role as a mentor to young players, especially Bryce Young, has become crucial to the team. Even with the injury he suffered in a car accident last season, Dalton was still an important factor.
Bryce Young, who has become one of the best young quarterbacks, owes a lot to Dalton's help and leadership. This experienced quarterback was always ready to help younger players, and his advice and experience contributed significantly to Young's progress. "Me and Andy are super close," Young said late last season. "Since I arrived, I talked to him about all situations and often asked for his perspective. I always relied on him."
The two of them spent a lot of time together.
"You can't add up the hours we spent here. ... And just being able to have someone that you can bounce stuff off of, ask how you see things, whether it's X's and O's or it's a philosophical thing or stuff outside of football somewhere nuanced in between. He is always there just trying to help me out.''- Young said.
