Vince McMahon issued a statement via social media regarding the premiere of the documentary series "Mr. McMahon," stressing that he does not regret participating in it, despite recent rumors. The former WWE boss, as wrestling fans know, has faced allegations of abuse and trafficking from a former employee.
The show is set to premiere tomorrow on Netflix, but the trailer that was released has left fans somewhat confused. It appears to focus more on the controversies surrounding McMahon rather than specific details about his career and successes. While McMahon is pleased to be part of the project, he is disappointed with how the trailer was produced. He feels that the producers had the opportunity to showcase his life and the way he built the company, but the trailer instead presents something entirely different, which he is not particularly happy about.
“I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had an opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, which were equally filled with excitement, drama, fun, and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons. Unfortunately, based on an early partial cut I’ve seen, this doe falls short and takes the predictable path of conflating the “Mr. McMahon” character with my true self, Vince."- he said, as quoted by Pwmania.
McMahon pointed out that the title and promotional material makes it clear that a lot of things have been misrepresented or completely left out, which seems aimed at confusing viewers. He criticized the producers for using common editing tricks, like out-of-context clips and old soundbites, to twist the audience's understanding and create a misleading narrative. He also mentioned that they reference a lawsuit related to an affair he ended to portray him as “Mr. McMahon.” He hopes viewers will keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.
The WWE boss has not spoken publicly since the allegations against him surfaced. He wanted to keep things under control, avoiding any rush that could lead to further mistakes. It’s still unclear what to expect regarding the McMahon case, but the public has pointed fingers at him, believing he is guilty and that he will face consequences in this process. While Netflix will showcase many unknowns about his career, it’s clear that there’s still a lot happening behind the scenes.
Janel Grant's team reacted
Janel Grant’s legal team decided to respond to McMahon’s statements. Ann Callis, attorney for Janel Grant, issued a statement highlighting that the former WWE boss had allegedly abused her client in various ways for over two years. She believes McMahon’s comments are delusions aimed at preserving his status and the reputation he has built over the years. Callis hopes that the docuseries will reveal what’s important: the other side of McMahon’s persona that hasn’t been discussed much in the past. She views McMahon as an abuser who deserves to face consequences for his actions.
“Vince McMahon physically and emotionally abused, * assaulted and human trafficked Janel Grant for more than two years. Calling his horrific and criminal behavior “an affair” is delusional and nothing more than a sad attempt to save his shredded reputation. Although Ms. Grant has not seen the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries, we hope it shines a bright light on his abhorrent and criminal actions by accurately portraying the realities of his abusive and exploitative behavior."- she said.
Callis emphasized that Janel Grant will no longer let McMahon silence her. She described Grant's story as deeply disturbing and painful but believes it can help other abuse survivors find their own voices. The goal is to hold McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE accountable for their actions and to ensure that Grant has her opportunity to present her case in court.
Many hope that the truth will finally come out and that details about this case, which has shaken the wrestling community and the broader public in America, will be revealed. McMahon has been a powerful figure for years and someone who was often talked about. His leadership of the company impressed many, as he was known for having strong opinions and exerting authority that instilled fear in wrestlers.
It wasn’t until years later that the extent of McMahon's actions came to light, revealing how he abused the authority he had. Many WWE legends and those who worked under McMahon have admitted to fearing him. He was known for reacting intensely to wrestlers, showing little mercy in various situations.
The WWE boss, on the other hand, will defend himself and intend to defend himself when it comes to the accusations against him.
