The UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington is on a chaotic decline. First Leon Edwards and then Joaquin Buckley – two major upsets in his vast career. The bitter taste of defeat either drives one towards a strong comeback or extends the phase of decay. Quite interestingly, the idea of moving up to 185 pounds interests Colby Covington, and he also revealed a name for a potential fight: Sean Strickland.Colby’s ideology indicates that those who move up from welterweight to middleweight perform far greater and in his theory the success stems from being slower and more unathletic.
Colby said that he wants to move up to the middleweight division and fight Sean Strickland:
“I don’t think [Sean Strickland] is anything special. He’s got a jab and a front kick… You shut those weapons down, and he’s very limited.”
Colby Covington on fighting at 185
Recently on submission radio, Colby shed some light on fighting at middleweight and also mentioned the former middleweight champion.
“Honestly, ‘85 is intriguing,” Covington said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. “I think it would be kind of cool to go up there with the narrative like, ‘Oh, this guy’s a small ‘70. He’s going to go up to ‘85 and take on an even bigger challenge.’ So there is a possibility. I’m always looking for the biggest and best fights, so we’ll see. I’m not sure, we’ll see what’s on the table, who’s hot at the time. I’m just always looking for the biggest and best fights. So it doesn’t matter. Any weight class”.
