This year's Wimbledon brings a real surprise right from the start. Before the first round was over, many tennis players who were considered favorites were eliminated. Yesterday, Daniil Medvedev was defeated, and Stefanos Tsitsipas withdrew from the tournament due to an injury. Today, after the easy elimination of Jessica Pegula, Lorenzo Musetti also lost.

The Italian player, who is ranked seventh in the ATP list, failed to fight the lower-ranked Nikoloz Basilashvili from Georgia. The match lasted four sets, and the result was 2:6, 6:4, 5:7, 1:6. This defeat is especially unexpected if it is known that last year Musetti reached the semi-finals of this same tournament, but now he won only one game in the final part of the match.

Fall and defeat at Wimbledon

During the match, only in the second set did it seem that the Italian was playing his tennis, because he managed to break and even the score. In the first set, however, he allowed the Georgian to take away two serves from him, and in the third he lasted until the 12th game, but then completely lost control and gave the initiative to his opponent. The Georgian has never gone beyond the third round in London before, but now for that opportunity he will play against Lorenzo Sonego, another Italian who easily defeated the Portuguese Faria 3:0 in sets. Lorenzo Musetti now follows packing and will probably lose his position among the top ten players in the world.

Much more difficult than expected, the Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz managed to get through to the third round of Wimbledon. After five sets, he defeated Fabio Fognini 7:5, 6:7, 7:5, 6:2, 6:1.

Both tennis players started well and held their serves until the score was 5:5 in the first set, when Alcaraz broke and won the first set. The second set was very tense and went to a tie-break, which the Italian won. The third set was a battle of breaks on both sides, but in the end Alcaraz was better and led with 2:1 in the sets.

In the fourth set, Fognini played greatly and easily won the set 6:2 with two breaks. However, in the fifth set, Alcaraz was dominant, he quickly made two breaks and brought the match to an end.

After Medvedev was eliminated in the first round, eighth seed Holger Rune also lost. He led with 2:0 in the sets, but Nicolás Jarry managed to make a big turnaround and win the next three sets, thus securing a place in the second round.
