The Denver Nuggets aren't just changing players this summer, the coaching staff is also undergoing major changes. The new head coach, Michael Malone, who succeeded the previous coach after a long stint as the first assistant, has already begun to assemble his team. According to the American media, two important names have already arrived in the coaching staff - Rodney Billups and J. J. Barea, while negotiations are currently underway to bring in Jared Dudley.
Rodney Billups, the younger brother of NBA legend Chauncey Billups, arrives from the Brooklyn Nets, where he worked as a scout. Before that, he was an assistant coach in Portland, so he brings a wealth of experience both on the court and in the analytical side of basketball. Although his last name carries a lot of weight in NBA circles, Rodney has been building his own coaching career for a long time, and this appointment represents a step forward.
On the other hand, J. J. Barea is a name that everyone knows well from his playing days. He is a champion with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, known for his inexhaustible energy, fighting spirit and basketball smarts. In the past few years, he worked as a coach and mentor to young players in Puerto Rico and the USA, and now he will bring exactly that dose of experience and leadership to the Nuggets bench. His role, as expected, will be particularly significant for the team's defensive staff.
Extra move: Jared Dudley
In addition to the two, Denver has received approval to speak with Jared Dudley, currently an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks. A former NBA player and highly respected young coach, Dudley could be a real reinforcement for the Nuggets, especially in the segment of tactical preparation and opponent analysis. Even while he was active as a player, he was known as someone with a "player-coach" mindset, which has now been further developed into a serious coaching career.
These moves make it clear that Michael Malone wants a fresh start and fresh energy in the coaching staff. With Billups, Bare and possibly Dudley, Denver not only rejuvenates the staff on the bench, but also brings a strategic turn in the way of working with the team and managing games.
After the departures of Michael Porter Jr. and the arrival of new names like Kem Johnson and Bruce Brown, the Nuggets are now making a huge effort to strengthen the coaching staff.
