The top UFC bantamweight contender Umar Nurmagomedov has spent a significant amount of time training with the lightweight champion Islam Makhachev – they are like family friends. Umar warns Topuria to keep Makhachev’s name out of his mouth because he feels it’s a challenge, he won’t be able to triumph in.

On the flip side, Ilia Topuira is as confident as ever in beating Makhachev. Both fighters quite inevitably may end up facing each other in the near future if they keep securing solid wins.

Umar says Ilia Topuria isn't on Islam Makhachev's level:

" [doesn't] need this...

he just became champion, you have to defend your title a couple times. Even one time, please. Stay focused on your division...

In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Umar Nurmagomedov explained how Ilia Topuria shouldn’t fight Islam Makhachev.

"Ilia Topuria [doesn't] need this. He just became champion, you have to defend your title a couple times. Even one time, please. Stay focused on your division. This game have levels. He's not on Islam's level. He's too small".
