The Kansas City Chiefs were updated with critical information on Thursday about their trump card in tight end Travis Kelce. While speaking to the press, Kelce said he thinks he has “two throwing years at least” before hanging the jersey.

Thirty-five years old, and Kelce has already signed a two-year $34.3 million extension this summer, making him the costliest Tight End in NFL history. In its reasonable terms, this could be considered a worthy accomplishment of the Chiefs’ offensive star.

Travis Kelce Extended Timeline

If Kelce’s word is to be taken seriously, the Chiefs fans should be prepared to see the player until at least the end of the 2025 season, when his new contract runs out. He has also, however, admitted, all-pro tight end, that he wishes to play till the wheels fall off, complicating any further efforts to schedule retirement.

Knowing how internal his personality is and how much he loves the sport, it is very likely that Kelce will keep it up for several more years. This uncertainty has raised questions about the future of Jared Wiley, the Chiefs' fourth-round pick from TCU.

Wiley has a great size of 6-foot 7 and weighs 255 pounds. He was selected for his capacity to take over Kelce's position at some point. In their last season at TCU, they 47 passes, 520 yards, and eight touchdowns gained him, making him excited for Kansas City’s developmental plans.

However, with Kelce’s timeline for retirement pushed to the far distance and Noah Gray just signing a three-year, $18 million dollar extension, Wiley's path to considerable time on the field seems complicated. Wiley may not receive many chances to prove himself early in his professional career, but because of Noah Gray's blocking ability and special teams usage, as well as his arm's length position, he is deemed solid inflexible as the TE2 in the Chiefs.

Therefore, Wiley will be forced to sit on the bench for at least a couple of years. More likely, however, barring any other unforeseen change in the roster, he will not be in a please take note position until the very last end of his rookie contract.
