The Vince McMahon Netflix docuseries has captured a lot of attention from wrestling fans, as well as those who may not be familiar with the sport and are focused on other things. After McMahon found himself in the spotlight due to scandals and allegations against him, the former WWE boss knew he was in a tough spot.
Many people want to follow his documentary to see what McMahon wants to tell the fans and what his plans are.
AEW president Tony Khan commented on McMahon's documentary during an interview with Quinn and Cantara, stating that he isn't familiar with the details of the docuseries since he's been focused on other things. Khan indirectly suggested that he isn’t very interested in such a documentary, wanting to primarily concentrate on AEW and the progress of the company.
“No, I’ve been so busy with football and wrestling that I have not seen that documentary. I’ve not gotten to watch that. I’m mostly focused here on what we’re doing in AEW. I do love watching wrestling all over the world.”- he said, as quoted by Pwmania.
The AEW boss stated that he has never met McMahon nor had the chance to work with him. Of course, Khan knows McMahon’s name well and has probably followed his work since childhood. However, Tony Khan does not intend to focus on other companies; he wants to concentrate on himself and how to improve AEW as an organization.
“I’ve never met him and have never really worked with him. I have grown up as a wrestling fan and historian of the pro wrestling business, so absolutely, we love being the challenger promotion and trying to grow and build AEW from the ground up. It’s only been five years and we’ve done a lot in that time.”- he continued.
Khan addressed the question about the allegations against WWE in February of this year by saying he can't comment on those serious issues at the moment, acknowledging that they are attracting a lot of attention for good reasons. He emphasized that for AEW, their top priority is to create a safe locker room environment for everyone, both women and men. He expressed confidence in the strong bond within their locker room, noting that there’s a solid support system in place for all the wrestlers.
The main figure of AEW believes that the most important thing is to have a company that is a safe space for everyone, where individuals can work peacefully and harmoniously. The situation in WWE has not seemed ideal for many years, especially since McMahon often imposes his authority on wrestlers and can be rigid with them. Khan stressed that the top priority for everyone is to create a company that serves as a foundation of safety for all, where individuals can freely share their opinions and speak about everything. AEW has proven to be excellent in this regard, and they have no intention of tolerating anything that goes against their ideals and regulations.
“There’s a lot of channels. I think everybody feels very good about having a safe place and a safe work space and there’s people you can talk to,” Khan said.
“There’s people in the office, there’s people on the wrestling side. And for us, I think that’s the most important thing in any office, in any workplace. It’s just having a lot of people that will listen and want to make the company a safe, good place to work.”
Tony Khan on AEW and its future
Tony Khan uses every opportunity to promote AEW and the values of the company, believing that AEW is a genuine project with huge potential. The AEW boss wants to keep moving forward at a strong pace, aiming to make the company even bigger and dominate in the years to come. While it’s difficult to expect that they can take WWE off its throne, it must be acknowledged that Khan's optimism and desire for AEW are much greater than anything else.
Khan explained that he believes it makes perfect sense to have big events because AEW has an incredible roster and an endless number of exciting matches. He pointed out that many of these matchups have been developing since the very beginning of AEW.
He also mentioned that "All In" and "All Out" are two of their best pay-per-view events, and he’s really excited about what’s coming up with "WrestleDream." He stressed that while the future of the AEW World Championship is still uncertain, the stakes are high at Grand Slam, where a lot is on the line for the future of AEW.
