Just two months after leaving Red Bull, Sergio Pérez is back in the spotlight. The Mexican driver has had a rocky start to his career with the German team, and it was clear that he and the team had parted ways. However, Pérez is clearly not giving up on his Formula 1 career and is currently considering several options for a return.
Potential return to Formula 1
The experienced driver, who achieved six career victories, is considering a return to Formula 1 as a member of the Cadillac team. Last season was extremely disappointing for him, as he fell 224 points behind teammate Max Verstappen. Pérez was unable to keep up with Verstappen's incredible pace, and it is unlikely that any driver could have done more. In addition, in his last six Grand Prix appearances, he has failed to finish in the top five.
The poor results had a major impact on the team, which failed to win the constructors' title, despite Verstappen winning the world title. For Red Bull, any setback is always a big blow, as their appetites are huge.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Pérez is already in talks with Cadillac, which plans to enter Formula 1 in 2026. The team, which enters F1 in partnership with General Motors, wants an experienced driver in its lineup. They believe his experience could be key to the team's success in the coming seasons.
Although Cadillac will not be able to develop its own engine until 2028, they have decided to use a purchased engine in the initial seasons. They are reportedly in talks with Ferrari about a possible engine supply.
Pérez, who has not celebrated a victory since April 2023, had a difficult season at Red Bull, where Verstappen dominated and won four consecutive titles. The Mexican driver was in his shadow throughout the season. However, the experience that Pérez has, spending more than a decade in Formula 1, driving for McLaren, Racing Point and Red Bull, remains undeniable.
