Robbie Lawler is one of those fighters everyone loved to watch because of his courage to enter into exchanges of blows from which only one can remain standing. Although he retired last year, it is interesting that he is still being tested for doping, as if he could return. However, one of the best knockouts in UFC history confirmed its speculation and that there is no chance of his return.
"Yes, they are still testing me. But it happened when many people were in the hall, and they thought I was coming back. They tested me before that. I'm still in the pool, but I'm retired," said Robbie on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.
He trains at the famous Kill Cliff FC club in Florida but emphasizes that he is no longer interested in professional fights. Now, 43-year-old Lawler enjoys his family away from public life and social networks. Although he claims to train regularly, he no longer has the desire he used to in his youth.
"No one can tell me what to do. That's who I am. I have to decide for myself. If someone tries to persuade me to do something, I immediately resist. Training and recovery, it all becomes more and more difficult. Can I still? I can. But do I want to?" said Lawler.
This year, on June 26th, Robbie will again be in the spotlight—he will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for the second time, this time as an individual. He has already gone down in history due to his epic fight with Rory MacDonald, which is considered by many to be the most brutal match in the history of mixed martial arts.
"I've never allowed myself too much emotion. Not high, not low. But then, as I watched all those videos, with all those words coming at once, it all hit me," Robbie said honestly.
The legendary fighter retired after a brutal knockout against Nick Price at UFC 290, ending the bout in just 38 seconds and capping off an incredible career.
