With their Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers on the horizon, the New York Jets will prepare with comforting expectations of their star pass rusher, Haason Reddick, in the tank. Jets head coach Robert Saleh stated in his Saturday press conferences that it’s all but official that Reddick will not be able to play in the next game, a blow to the defense.

Speaking to the media, Saleh said it was pretty confident Reddick would not be in the game: "It would be fair to say he has been ruled out for the game." This follows other happier announcements very late August when there was a real chance that Reddick would even make the season opener due to healing early enough.

This has also happened to Reddick amid a deepening crisis of contract negotiations. He was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets at Reddick’s insistence for a new contract, and things have only gotten uglier.

So, even after undoubted news that the manual would not depart administration, they made peace with selling Reddick on August 12. Since then, there has been no progress in the talks, and with Reddick turning 30 in September, it remains unclear what the future holds for the two-time Pro Bowler.

Reddick's Impact Missed

Reddick’s time with the American football team ‘Eagles’ also stands out. He registered ten sacks in as many seasons and earned another two Pro Bowl selections. There were high expectations of what he would bring to the Jets, so his omission now is a big blow for the team as they face a strong challenge against the 49ers.

In Reddick's absence, Johnson II, Jermaine, McKinley Takkarist, McDonald IV Will, and Clemons Micheal will be drafted in. These players now have to step up as far as the Jets' defense is concerned; Gilbert’s previous accomplishments aggravated this undertaking even further, as he was a daunting task.

As the Jets go through this difficult opening stage of the season, the prospect of Reddick being back on the field sooner rather than later hangs like a shadow. With the negotiations remaining inconclusive and more games on the horizon going down the wire, season-defining choices await both the team and Reddick. The end of this conflict, one way or the other, has yet to be communicated as the Jets look to clear this first hurdle.
