The Pittsburgh Steelers quickly addressed the quarterback position after Justin Fields left the team. To fill that hole, they decided to once again rely on Mason Rudolph, who returns to the franchise where he spent most of his career.
Return of Rudolf to Pittsburgh
Mason Rudolph, who started his NFL career in Pittsburgh, is now part of the Steelers again. During his first five seasons, he played an important role in 2019 alone, playing more than ten games and starting eight times. His path was not without obstacles - in the first season he did not make a single appearance, and in the remaining three years he appeared in a total of 11 games, with five starts.
Last year, the 29-year old played for the Tennessee Titans, where he had 1,530 yards in eight games, five of which he was the starter. He also scored nine touchdowns and had several interceptions. His experience from last season was a key factor in his return to Pittsburgh, where he was welcomed with open arms.
Rudolf signed a two-year contract with the Steelers, worth eight million dollars, of which four and a half million are guaranteed. Although he is currently the only quarterback with a contract for next season, with the expiration of Russell Wilson's one-year contract, it is clear that Rudolf will take the role of the second quarterback.
The only question is who will be replaced - will it be Wilson, with whom they are negotiating an extension of cooperation, or perhaps a new name?
With Rodgers now officially a free agent, Pittsburgh could have several options in the coming months, and Rudolf will certainly be a key figure in the formation of the future quarterback position.
It will be interesting to follow the progress of this team in the coming weeks, and see what these reinforcements can really do. Whether the Steelers will improve or not is difficult to answer, but we have no doubt that such players improve the dynamics and influence the team spirit in a very positive way.
