The Golden State guard recently became a full-fledged member of the Warriors' rotation, but in another sport he was predicted to have a stellar career...

The name Pat Spencer is almost certainly unknown to many basketball fans, but there is no doubt that it will remain in the ears of a large number of people in the coming period. Especially when they hear this story.

The boy from Pennsylvania made his debut in the strongest league in the world at the end of February last year, when he did not register on the scoreboard in the defeat against Denver. In the following 14 months, he was in double figures only three times, and in the recently ended series with Houston even twice.

The American played three out of seven matches, with an average of 9.3 points scored. He only spent 28 minutes on the field, which means he scored exactly one point every 60 seconds – a pretty impressive performance.

He won the trust of Steve Kerr in the victory over Minnesota at the beginning of the Western semifinals, but in another sport he could have been the best ever.

Spencer's career

Spencer is one of the most successful college lacrosse players in history, and he also holds the record for the number of assists (231). In the 2019 draft, he was selected in the first place by Juta Archers. However, he never showed up for training, since he decided to change sports.

He transferred to Northwestern University, where he played for the basketball section the following season. He had quite solid numbers (10-4-4), which recommended him to the Hamburg team.

He played five matches for Towers in which he played a notable role, but spent the following season in the G League, in the development team of the Washington Wizards.

Since 2022, he has been stationed in San Francisco, and with great success he performed for the Golden State branch. In Santa Cruz, he was one of the key players, which earned him a two-way contract with the "warriors" in 2024.

The contract became standard two months ago, and Spencer's change of profession turned out to be an extremely good decision. In addition to the success he would have achieved in lacrosse, he would hardly have had the financial support he found in basketball.
