McLaren will not be the only team hoping for a triumph at this weekend's British Grand Prix. The young hope of this team, the 22-year-old Australian Oscar Piastri, is ready for another big challenge, not only against his teammate Lando Norris, but also against other competitors.
"Let's wait and see. I think we're in for a very interesting weekend - Silverstone is always like that. The weather often brings unpredictable conditions, and it seems that will be the case this time as well. I expect there won't be just two McLarens at the top," said the Australian.
He points out that Mercedes will probably be very fast, as well as Red Bull, which has always been competitive on this track. Also, Ferrari showed a solid performance in Austria, so it will be interesting to follow who will join the fight.
"This is a track I always enjoy and I look forward to a good fight - regardless of who my rival will be," added Piastri.
Piastri and motivation: “There’s no tactic”
The Australian has won every race since Norris won, but he doesn’t think it was a deliberate strategy.
“It’s just a coincidence. I approach every weekend the same way – to give my best,” he said.
He added that he may have had a bit more motivation in China, mainly because of the pain after the Melbourne race, but that he’s still learning to understand his body and his limits better.
As for his teammate’s home race, Piastri doesn’t think it would give him much of an advantage.
“Every driver wants to win at home, but points are points, no matter where the race is,” he stressed.
Finally, he said that he likes Silverstone because it has brought him good results in the past and he hopes it will be successful this weekend.
He also revealed an interesting detail related to his trophy collection.
"I give all the trophies to McLaren, it's in my contract. I get them so fast I'll have to look for a bigger apartment to house them all. A good problem, but the only problem that comes with winning."
