Saša Dončić, the father of one of today's best young basketball players, was shocked after learning that his son Luka would be traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. This unexpected move caused great surprise in the basketball world, and the Slovenian's father could not hide his disappointment, especially because of the way the whole situation was resolved.
Obvious surprise and justifications
During an interview on Serbian Arena Sport TV, Saša admitted that he could not believe that the trade was really true. "I was surprised, even shocked. At first I didn't believe it was real either, it was really strange, but in the NBA, what can I say, anything is possible," he said.
Although he admitted that he didn't think it was a bad move in the long term, he believes that Luka, as a player with great potential, stands to gain, because the Lakers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are the three most prestigious franchises in the NBA.
However, Saša Dončić did not hide his disappointment over the way his son was treated. "I understand that some player may not suit the team, but this kind of behavior, hiding and hypocritical justification... it hurts," he stressed.
Alibi or real truth?
According to some reports, the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, Nico Harrison, explained that the trade was the result of Luka Dončić's physical condition, as he often appeared overweight and was unprepared for the start of the season. Saša Dončić did not believe in this version, considering it only an alibi.
"It's just an excuse. My son worked hard to come back, he was in the gym for four hours. If he's playing unprepared, how would he play when he's ready?" he said.
It remains to be seen how Dončić will cope with the Lakers and how he will respond to all these changes on the field.
