Michael Cooper, who played an instrumental role during the Los Angeles Lakers' Showtime years, is about to get the opportunity to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. This great event will take place on October 13, 2024, at 3 p.m.
PT/ 6 p.m. ET and represents the apex of Cooper’s career. The Washington, D.C.-born Cooper will be introduced by former teammates Great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and James Worthy, further examining Cooper’s important role in some winning aspirations and overall in the sport.
Cooper’s association with the Lakers was a twelve-year period in which he played a significant part in winning five NBA titles. Several leagues applaud him for being one of the best defenders, recording an All-Defensive Team selection eight times, and being New Bailey winner of the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1987.
Cooper's Legacy Continues
However, he has averaged 8.9 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in his games, with 46.9% shooting from the floor throughout his stay with the team. Cooper’s professional career started with the 60th pick in the 1978 NBA Draft, where he was selected out of New Mexico.
He eventually played for numerous teams and earned All-Star status with Virtus Roma. Cooper went on to become a coach after his time as a player and made an impact by winning two WNBA Championships with the Los Angeles Sparks and being awarded the title of WNBA Coach of the Year in 2000.
His coaching career could not have been imagined without several seasons spent in the Lakers outfit, contributing to the hockey arena and thus further cementing his nicks. This induction is not just for the glory of the people, which one has done in terms of achievement, but more to how Cooper has transformed the game of basketball.
Such an event aired only on NBA TV will take place on Sunday Oct. 13 at 3 p.m PT 6 p.m ET. It comes at the same time that Turner is in his last year of holding rights to air NBA games, which adds another layer of historical significance to the occasion.
