Kurt Angle, a well-known name in the wrestling world and often regarded as one of the greatest in WWE history, recently discussed various topics related to the wrestling scene during an interview with WFAN. One of the key topics was Vince McMahon, the former WWE boss who continues to be a powerful figure in the industry. McMahon played a crucial role in the growth of the company and remains etched in the memories of WWE fans, having been the face of the organization for many years.
Following the recent allegations against him, several major figures in the wrestling community reacted in different ways. During the WFAN interview, Angle addressed whether there is a difference between Vince McMahon and the character he portrayed on TV. The 55-year-old acknowledged that the distinction isn't significant. Angle, who respected McMahon and spent a lot of time with him, expressed confusion over the allegations, stating that he had never witnessed such behavior during their time together.
“There’s not much of a difference. Vince is Vince. He’s always showed his true colors, all the time. I took a quick liking to Vince. I liked him, and he became somewhat of a father figure for me. The thing is, what blows my mind, I always spent so much time with him, but I never saw him do any of the things he’s accused of. I spent a lot of time with him. I was on his private jet with him. I was in the meetings with him."- Angle said, as quoted by Pwmania.
Angle explained that he and Vince McMahon worked closely together throughout the day and often stayed at the same hotel, which meant they spent a lot of time together. He expressed surprise at the allegations against McMahon, stating that he never witnessed any inappropriate behavior during their interactions.
Although McMahon has always been a controversial figure in the wrestling world, known for his authority and behavior that often sparked rumors, few expected things to escalate to this extent. The allegations against Vince are truly disturbing and, for some, unbelievable. However, many are now questioning what happened behind the scenes of such a massive company, as well as who the key players were when it comes to any form of coercion, extortion, or violence.
Angle stressed that McMahon was frequently on his phone, sending texts and communicating with others, which made it easy for him to overlook what those communications were about. He acknowledged that he didn't know the specifics of McMahon's phone activity, but emphasized that he didn't see anything unusual during their time together.
55-year-old still clearly holds a high opinion of his former boss, believing that McMahon was a man who commanded respect from many. His authority was undeniable, and few had the courage to challenge him or oppose his decisions, fully aware of the consequences of doing so. Ultimately, the court will provide a definitive answer about what is true in this situation and what misconduct may have occurred within the company over the years.
Kurt Angle on drugs in WWE
That wasn't the only topic discussed on WFAN. Kurt Angle reminisced about his early moments and arrival in the company. Coming to WWE, he found that many aspects were unfamiliar to him, as he was in a process of exploration, analysis, and a desire to prove himself. The former wrestling star was somewhat surprised to discover the extent of drug use within the company upon his arrival. Interestingly, no one spoke about it, fully aware of the potential consequences. Kurt realized he was in a unique environment, but this did not dampen his ambition to succeed and make a name for himself.
The former freestyle wrestler drew a parallel between his time in WWE and the present day, stressing that the company now has a very different approach to its wrestlers and a distinct philosophy. Many feel that during his era, the company was primarily controlled by one person who dictated everything, whereas today wrestlers have much more freedom and opportunities to shape their own narratives. Angle expressed his admiration for how WWE executives support today's talents and the established names who have been around for years. This approach, he believes, will certainly help WWE wrestlers continue to improve and thrive.
“The way the WWE takes care of the guys today is incredible, and they just make sure these guys don’t falter, and they don’t.”-Kurt Angle concluded.
It is interesting how new times bring a new dimension, not only when it comes to the wrestling world, but the world of sports in general. A lot of things are being modernized, evolving, and the treatment that today's athletes have is much better than it used to be.
