Joey Logano has faced many challenges in his career, but he never seems to have a problem coming out victorious. A well-known name in NASCAR and a new champion, he won his third championship. Although some fans, especially of opposing teams, are disappointed with this outcome, the fact is that Logano was great this season.
In an interview with 'Kenny Conversations', Logano was honest, sending a clear message to the fans: Kiss my ***.
The 34-year-old driver looked back on the playoffs, stressing that this system is great. Judging by the fans' reactions, they are not particularly satisfied with the current system. Logano, on the other hand, respects the current system more, considering that it carries the excitement factor and everything necessary for fans to enjoy. This season we could see many drivers going beyond their limits, wanting to make a success.
“The playoffs are here because everyone complained about it being a full season for one and it wasn’t exciting enough,” Logano said, as quoted by On3.
“… Now, we got a system which I think is like freaking awesome. I love it. As a race fan, it is intense, it is pressure packed, it is do or die, people are willing to do the craziest things to try to win and we’re gonna complain about that now too? C’mon guys."- Logano continued.
The 34-year-old shares his frustrations by listening to various stories and rumors that come from day to day. The popular NASCAR driver spends time on social media, often following comments. Although some complain that he won the championship, Logano points out that they have won the last ten races. In addition, they had five wins in the season. He didn't forget to mention Richmond too, where they were equally great, but they didn't manage to win. A lot has happened this season, and Logano explains how things look from his perspective
He looks at this season as a season where they achieved almost six victories. Commenting on the rumors that point out that they are not real champions, he believes that it is better for them to take another look at what was happening. His team excelled in the moments when it was most needed. Logano knows that such a system exists in other sports as well. Joey stresses that a great regular season ensures an easy position for the playoffs. Winning the regular season brings 16 points, but winning more races also brings points. The system is quite clear.
Joey Logano: The facts are that they didn’t have a good playoff
Logano points out that all this is important, considering the three-race series. He gave as an example Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin, who had significantly more points than him in each round. However, they did not excel in the playoffs, which Logano knew how to take advantage of. Joey was aware that the race for the championship lasted from start to finish, and his dedication and desire were crucial.
“All of that matters a lot because there’s a three-race series. Those guys showed up. The 45 [Tyler Reddick], the 5 [Kyle Larson], the 11 [Denny Hamlin] — those guys showed up with like 30 more points than me in every round. We had to overcome that. We started behind all of them. The facts are that they didn’t have a good playoff. If they didn’t have those playoff points, they’re not getting to the Round of 8. The 45 barely made it in at the Roval. If he didn’t have the playoff points, he’s not in."- he said.
The 34-year-old stresses that he managed to beat all of them, taking advantage of the fact that they did not excel. In addition, he does not want to take anything from them but admits that the regular season is very important, and they had to catch up with others. They had to win the championship even despite the fact that they did not have a great regular season. The popular driver admits that they got hot when it mattered most, and won the races that mattered. In the end, he confirmed what he said at the beginning of the text.
The 34-year-old wants to do impressive things in the coming years as well. He wants to win the championship. It will be interesting to see if Joey succeeds in this. There will be fierce competition next season as well, and it is likely that many will treat him more aggressively, aware of how dangerous he is. Joey Logano wants to continue in the right rhythm, show his best, and try to win the championship next season.
