The Grilling JR podcast provided a great opportunity for Jim Ross to discuss the upcoming Netflix documentary about Vince McMahon. The well-known figure in the wrestling world admitted that he was never considered to be part of the documentary. Ross is baffled by this, noting that some may not have seen him as a viable participant.

The man currently part of AEW is well-known for his long tenure as a play-by-play commentator for WWE. Many consider him the greatest WWE commentator of all time. Fans particularly remember him for his iconic role during the golden days of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

At 72 years old, he feels it would have been a valuable chance to share his perspective, given his deep knowledge of the company where he spent some of his best years. Ross admitted that he feels hurt by the exclusion and is disappointed by the approach taken.

“No one closer to Vince than me at certain times in my tenure. Right hand man type material, but I never got a call. Maybe they didn’t feel like I was viable enough to follow up. I would have been happy to do an interview if I had been approached, but that didn’t occur and I’m not sure why because I know every secret, every corner, the whole nine yards. My feelings aren’t hurt because I wasn’t involved in it. It might be better that I wasn’t because it will make it easier to watch because a lot of us hate seeing ourselves on television.”- Jim Ross said, as quoted by Pwmania.

Jim Ross explained that he was uncertain about how Tony Khan would have reacted to his involvement in the Vince McMahon documentary. He mentioned that he would have sought Khan’s approval before participating, as he is loyal to his current employer and appreciates the opportunities Khan has given him. Ross emphasized that his role in AEW, particularly working on main events at pay-per-views, is important and unique. He mentioned that he wouldn’t risk jeopardizing his current work for anything, even though he didn’t need the money, and was willing to do an interview if it had been appropriate.

Jim Ross on the documentary: He’s a controversial guy and this is a hell of a story

Jim Ross still cannot provide a definite answer about the project or how things will unfold. Given that Vince McMahon is considered by many to be the most significant figure in wrestling history, expectations are high for a captivating documentary that will draw attention. Ross describes McMahon as a controversial figure, stressing that McMahon has been known for his extreme actions throughout his career. Recent events have created massive chaos and likely jeopardized much of what he has built over the years. Jim also acknowledged other key figures within the company and the production side, but he remains unsure about how the documentary will portray the legacy of WWE's most prominent figure.

“It all depends on how much involvement, in a production sense, that Vince is going to have on the project. Look, he’s a controversial guy and this is a hell of a story. I can tell you, Bill Simmons is really talented. His 30 for 30s, all of the things he’s accomplished are significant. [Tiger King] made money and it worked. I’m anxious to see how much in depth on the production side, the storytelling side, the screenwriting side that Vince is going to have in this thing."- he said.

Jim Ross stressed that the documentary on Vince McMahon has the potential to be either a major success or a disappointment. He believes that, as with any exciting story, there’s always a way to present it effectively, and he expects this to be the case here. Ross sees it as a remarkable story that’s almost too incredible to believe, but it’s very real.

Given everything Vince McMahon has gone through, the many years he spent building his story, and the recent events, there’s no doubt that this documentary will cover all the important moments of his career. Wrestling fans are anticipating this documentary, hoping for nothing less than an outstanding film in the same vein as Netflix’s previous documentaries.

The success of the documentary will hinge on how well it captures the truth and how accurately the story is told. He stated that wrestling fans will be as familiar with the story as the storytellers themselves. Ross expressed his excitement and intrigue about the documentary, mentioning that he had previously doubted it would ever come to fruition but is now enthusiastic to watch it.
