Novak Djokovic is once again in the spotlight of the tennis world, even though he has not been recognized on the court since the Olympics.
The whole world is discussing whether the Serbian ace, the world's greatest tennis player of all time, should retire, so as not to suffer defeats in the first rounds of the tournament. Even when it was announced yesterday that Andy Murray is no longer his coach, a new round of "advice" to Djokovic on what to do began.
Formerly the best tennis player in the world, Jim Courier, in an interview for the Sportskeeda website, said that Novak does not need a coach so much as a motivator.
"Novak doesn't need a coach, but motivation! It's not clear to me what kind of situation Djokovic is in less than two weeks before Roland Garros. It seems to me that he's completely healthy, he just lacks motivation. Maybe he needs something extra to be ready for a new attack on Garos and Wimbledon, where it's most important to him. His tennis is not as good as it should be now," stated Jim Courier.
The American also reminded of the Olympic Games
"Who was Novak's coach at the Olympic Games when he won the gold medal? Just like that, he can do everything himself".
Courier admitted that he was surprised when he heard that Novak had started cooperation with Murray.
"An even bigger surprise was that the two of them started working at all. It was really a shock. When it was revealed at the end of last year, people thought that it would be good for Novak, that he would get inspiration. In Australia, everything worked great when Novak defeated Alcaraz. Unfortunately, he got injured in that match and we didn't see him play well again until Miami. He won two phenomenal matches there in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, and then went to the final with with a swollen eye and lost to Menšik, from whom he probably would have lost even if everything had been fine. And the season on clay did not start as Andy and Novak would have liked," concluded Jim Courier.
Before Roland Garros, Novak Djokovic will play in the tournament in Geneva, and he is preparing in Belgrade.
