The weekly NBA All-Star event has always attracted a lot of attention, and one of the most important factors in its popularity has been the constant presence of LeBron James over the last 20 years. Regardless of occasional format changes, James was almost always present at these matches, but the year 2025 will be an exception. Namely, just a few hours before the start of the All-Star match (which this year was formatted as a mini-tournament), James announced that he would not participate due to problems with his foot and ankle, which had been bothering him for some time.
Health problems stopped Lebron James
The Los Angeles Lakers star revealed that he decided to miss the tournament due to lingering pain in his foot and ankle, which have become a problem over the past few years. He was supposed to play for Shaquille O'Neal's team, and their opponent was the team of legendary WNBA player Candace Parker.
For James, who was first selected for the All-Star game back in 2005, this would be the 21st year in a row that he has been selected. His streak of 20 consecutive All-Star appearances is a record, and he is also the leader in total All-Star selections. Unfortunately, this year his streak was cut short due to a necessary injury break.
One must take into account his age.
James announced that he will return to Los Angeles on Sunday evening, and that he will continue his rehabilitation from Monday. His words were clear: "There is no rest for me," he said, showing his commitment to recovery.
His goal is to be ready for Wednesday's game, when the Lakers play Charlotte. This game was postponed due to the recent fires in Los Angeles, and James hopes to be fully fit for it. "I hope to be ready for Wednesday," he added.
