Hideo Kojima is currently finishing his Death Stranding 2, but he is all about creating ideas for the future. We heard that he already has an outline of the script for Death Stranding 3, and then an idea for a game where you become old and senile...
In fact, 62-year-old Kojima has a USB stick full of ideas for new games, and he passed it on to his assistant because he's worried about what will happen to the Kojima Productions team once he's gone. Just let them make a good backup!
Kojima says that turning 60 was a turning point in his plans for the future, primarily due to health problems.
“At that time, I got seriously ill, and I had eye surgery. Up until then, I didn’t think I was old. I didn’t feel old and I assumed I would be creating for as long as I lived. But then I got sick and couldn’t do anything. And I saw a lot of people around me dying at that time. I was facing death. I recovered, but I wondered how many more years I had left to make a game or a movie. Maybe ten years?” – Kojima told Edge magazine.
He also revealed that his film friends had persuaded him to stick to directing video games and not to venture into filmmaking. Although it was announced that Death Stranding would get its own film adaptation, Kojima has already confirmed that he will not be directing the film.
Hideo Kojima's ideas
61-year-old developer has reached a point in his life where he is thinking about aging, and in the latest episode of his podcast, he revealed that he would like to turn the concept of aging into a game or certain mechanics within his games. He gave three examples:
a game in which we guide a character from youth to old age, and their physical condition and abilities are primarily related to their age, so that the player must adapt to the game as their character ages
a waiting game in which the player would create something that would have to wait for it to mature over a certain period of time, and therefore a game that would have to be played gradually over a period of time
a forgetting game in which the main character gradually forgets what his task is and how to carry out the commands the player asks of him, i.e. a game designed to be played quickly and in short intervals
