Surely one of the most difficult scenes at Wimbledon this year was Grigor Dimitrov's surrender in the quarterfinals of the competition, when he had to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury. And that at the moment when he was leading 2:0 in the match of his career against world number one - Janik Siner.
Dimitrov served, took away a point, but at that moment a muscle in his chest area snapped. The Bulgarian tennis player took some time to recover, but soon it was clear that he would not be able to continue the match, so he ended the competition with tears in his eyes, in which the semi-finals were looming, while the full stadium saw him off with applause.
Due to the seriousness of the injury, the guy from Haskovo, who won eight ATP tournaments during his career, had to be rushed to the hospital, and now from his bed he decided to call all the fans and thank them for the words of support he received in the past few days.
"Sometimes the heart wants to go on... but the universe has a different plan for us. I had to withdraw from this match at Wimbledon and it was one of the most painful moments of my career.
Thank you for the enormous amount of love - from family, friends, fans, colleagues, to the entire tennis community... your messages really lifted me up in these difficult times. Thanks everyone. Really. Recovery begins now.
See you soon," said Grigor Dimitrov in a message on Instagram.
Return
It is not known when we can expect his return, but it is clear that the Bulgarian tennis player is motivated to return as soon as possible, wanting to come out of this situation much stronger. This is a big blow for a tennis player of his quality, but Grigor is a person who encountered various obstacles during his career, but the desire and passion always remained in him.
