Geno Smith, the 34-year-old quarterback, arrived in Las Vegas with the task of becoming the solution to the Raiders' quarterback position this coming season. However, he surprised everyone when he signed a new contract just one month after his arrival, without playing a single match for the team.
After only a short time in Las Vegas, Smith agreed to a two-year contract worth $85.5 million, with $66.5 million guaranteed. This produced a lot of reactions, given his not-so-consistently brilliant career.
Smith's path through the NFL was full of thorns. Coming to the strongest American football league in the world brings special challenges, which only the strongest can face.
He started with the New York Jets, where he spent four seasons, and then continued with the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Chargers, where he played one season each. However, the last two years with the Jets have been difficult. During that period, injuries prevented him from playing most of the matches, and out of 10 matches played, he was only a starter twice.
However, after those challenging and difficult years, Smit got a new opportunity in Seattle. Coach Pete Carroll decided to give him a chance, and that bet paid off. In the 2022 season, Smith had the best season of his career, passing the 4,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, and was named to the Pro Bowl.
Many people remember that season with fond emotions.
Award
He was also awarded the title of Comeback of the Year. A year later, Smith recorded a career-high 4,320 yards, with more wins than losses.
Despite everything, this great NFL player still has a quite stable and successful career. He is now a key player for the Raiders, and the team hopes to transfer his past success to Las Vegas.
It will be interesting to follow his progress and performances, and see how much this experienced player can really do. Knowing him and his qualities, it is clear that he still has the passion and qualities needed to be at the top.
