Denny Hamlin recently discussed Kyle Busch's recent struggles during a media interview. Fans of the experienced driver are raising questions about where the main issue lies and why Busch isn't performing like his former self. There are various theories about why Busch isn’t the same driver, but Hamlin didn’t want to dive deeply into those discussions.
Some people point to the next-gen cars as the main problem, while others believe that Busch's motivation might not be enough. During the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin mentioned that it’s difficult to attribute Busch's poor performances solely to the next-gen cars. He believes that drivers of Busch's caliber should be able to adapt to any conditions and vehicles.
Hamlin thinks that after so much time, it’s reasonable to expect drivers to adjust to the new generation of cars and find a way to adapt.
“I don’t know, I don’t buy that,” Hamlin said, as quoted by On3.
“Simply because, great race car drivers can adapt to whatever they’re driving. I just feel as though, you know, he’s going running dirt now, like, surely he’s gotten much better at that, but like, you’re just going from Gen Six to Gen Seven, and while Next Gen, yes, is quite a bit different, I mean, we’ve been doing this now for three years. Surely you’ve been able to adapt by now."
Hamlin explains that he doesn’t fully agree with the idea that Kyle Busch's driving style doesn’t match the new car. He believes that top drivers can adapt to different situations and vehicles. He points out that there are other factors at play.
It is known that many NASCAR drivers have faced similar difficulties and have managed to adjust and adapt over time. However, Busch still seems to be struggling, though the exact nature of his issues isn’t clear. The 39-year-old is someone whose performances we've enjoyed for years, and we have admired what he does on NASCAR tracks.
His current crisis is surprising to many, but there’s no doubt that Busch has the ability to find a solution to improve his performances. His current form is disappointing for everyone involved.
Hamlin notes that during Busch's time at Joe Gibbs Racing, he didn’t win much with the next-gen cars, but that doesn’t mean Busch can't figure it out. Hamlin stresses that there is a learning curve for all drivers as they try to understand how to push the car and what it needs to go fast.
However, he feels that Busch has enough experience now, and it’s not fair to say that his struggles are simply due to his style not fitting the new car, since all drivers adjust their styles over time.
It’s not easy to adjust to new conditions or change driving styles, as this creates even bigger challenges for individuals. Denny Hamlin emphasizes that each race brings its own unique challenges, and it’s important to adapt to these new circumstances. It’s noticeable that many drivers are facing issues in such an environment.
“You know, we have to change our style weekly, going from track A to track B, to then the following week track C. That’s totally different. We always have to change our style.”- he continued.
After Kyle Busch's unfortunate late spin at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, many were shocked and disappointed, especially those who follow and support Busch. Although he was leading, the experienced driver spun out during Turn 2 and faced unfortunate circumstances once again.
Chase Briscoe reacts
Briscoe expressed his sympathy for Busch, stating that it’s frustrating to see him so close to success throughout the year. As a fan of Kyle Busch, he wanted to see him win to maintain his streak. Briscoe also mentioned that it’s disappointing to be part of a situation where Busch is struggling.
Briscoe has never hidden his admiration for Busch and what his presence means in the sport. He is certainly not happy about the recent events and feels disappointed by everything that has happened.
Kyle Busch needs to find a solution for the crisis he’s facing, but it seems that even when he’s on the right track, some things just don’t go his way. Despite this, the veteran of the sport wants to remain optimistic, believing that things can turn in his favor, even when there are no signs of improvement.
Kyle still doesn’t have a victory, and the chances of him achieving one in 2024 seem slim. Busch aimed to secure a win this year as well, continuing his remarkable streak of winning in every season. If he manages to win this season, it would mark the 20th consecutive year of victories for him, which is an impressive record.
