Demetrius Johnson was inactive for quite a while; instead of continuing his career, he decided to call it quits! A glorious MMA career came to an end. He ended his professional record at 25-4-1. The main reason behind the retirement is an increased inclination to help others with training – the urge to help outweighed the urge to compete.
Moreover, Demetrius Johnson finds competing for less ‘fun,’ but on the flip side, he felt more alive doing jiu-jitsu. After retirement, most fighters show up for exhibition bouts – it will be interesting to see if Demetrius Johnson is out of the picture permanently or not.

Demetrius Johnson on retirement
Recently on Merab Dvalishvili’s podcast, Demetrius shared his thoughts on competing.
“I’m not going to fight anymore,” Johnson said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. “The reason why — I don’t find mixed martial arts fun anymore. The reason why, I find more fulfillment in doing jiu-jitsu because I feel it’s harder.
I find more fulfillment in helping and training with different people”.
There’s really no argument against Demetrius Johnson as the greatest of all time. One or two other guys might have slightly stronger cases, but there’s no concrete case against DJ the way there might be against, say, Jones.
It can’t be omitted that DJ was also very fun to watch.
